They’re back!
Summer temperatures? Yes, but some men have ice in their veins! The MAINEiacs are back, and these guys are itching to skate and win. The boys are starting training camp, and they’re armed with sticks and determination. The MAINEiacs host the Tigres in the only pre-season contest in Lewiston on Saturday, August 21, at 4 p.m. But the big day arrives on Sept. 10 for the home opener when the MAINEiacs take on the Rimouski Oceanic at 7 p.m. Tickets are $14 for adults, $11 for seniors (60+) and students, and $8 for kids (ages 2-12). Not just hot air!
If you’ve never been to the Great Falls Balloon Festival, treat yourself to a wonderful event filled with fantastic colorful shapes ascending to the heavens, food options that will please most palates, talented bands, and plenty of fun. This year’s event, which will no doubt follow past balloon fests in attracting thousands of people from Maine, New England, and beyond, will be held August 20-22.
This year’s special balloon designs are Old McDonald’s Farm (which keeps with the theme of this year’s show in celebrating Maine farming) and Jack ND Box. A number of other balloons will participate.
In addition to the 30 different food booths, including breakfast for those early morning launches, craft and trade booths invite browsing, and a children’s area entertains toddlers to teens. Music is provided by many different entertainers, from children’s shows to blues singers, to jazz, pop, and oldies. A carnival, parade, and various demonstrations and contests round out the weekend events.
